Review: Saint X by Alexis Schaitkin

Review by Pete R.

Overall Review: 6/10

Summary: Starting as a murder mystery, Claire attempts to discover what happened to her older sister during a family vacation to the Caribbean. After a number of years, a chance encounter with one of the participants in the evening her sister died leads Claire down a path of obsession, fear, withdrawal, anxiety, and maybe even adoration. Will she ever achieve the final stage of grief… acceptance?

Review: The author does a phenomenal job of injecting the remembrances and effects of other people surrounding the death of Claire’s sister, showing that even those not directly affiliated with a tragedy are still affected in complex ways. The initial description of the fateful vacation was gripping, however, the rest of the narrative seemed muddled and wandering. Worth a chance.
