It’s Valentine’s Day! Let’s take a minute to make sure we’re ready:
Big red heart hanging on your front door? Check?
Cards and candy for your kid’s school party? – Check?
Gifts for your family? – Check?
Gift for you? Wait, you didn’t buy a delectable Valentine’s treat for yourself? Well, I bought a stack of them. No, not a stack of heart-shaped boxes filled with chocolate. I buy those on Feb. 15th at half price. I’m talking about romance novels.
I devour romance novels. I write romance novels. I love romance novels more than I love chocolate and rum. Why? Because I believe everyone deserves a happily ever after, and a romance novel – according to the Romance Writers of America – must have an emotionally satisfying ending. The genre gives me hope that no matter the odds, love will prevail. And the more twists and turns, ups and down, and catastrophes and roadblocks the writer throws in the way of the hero and heroine on the path to happily ever, the more I get sucked into the story.
If you’re a romance junkie like me, or if you’ve never read the genre but Valentine’s Day has you craving a guaranteed happily ever after, here are a few of my favorite romance reads:
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
Anything by Jude Deveraux is fantastic, but A Knight in Shining Armor is my favorite. Actually, it’s one of my favorite novels of all-time.
Another one of my all-time favorites:
The Inn Boonsboro trilogy by Nora Roberts (aka my hero) – The Inn Boonsboro isn’t just a fictional place in a book. It’s a real bed and breakfast in Boonsboro, MD dating back to 1790. It was purchased and renovated by Nora Roberts and her husband. Each room is named after literary lovers who guess what? – found their happily ever after.
Last Chance Rodeo by Kari Lynn Dell – This novel is categorized as a sweet romance. There is no sex on the page, but the story delivers plenty of sexual tension to keep you reading. The author is a rodeo competitor which makes me like the book even more.
These next couple of books fall into the sensual to spicier category. You’ll see sex on the page but nothing too graphic, yet still totally hot.
Carolina Blues by Virginia Kantra – This is the only book I’ve read in Virginia’s Dare Island series so far. I loved it and can’t wait to read more.
Alaska Wild by Helena Newbury – I enjoyed this one on Audible.com and kept looking for reasons to drive places, alone, so I could listen in solitude.
Kidnapped by the Highland Rogue by Terri Brisbin – It wouldn’t be a conversation about romance if I didn’t include a historical novel with a sexy rogue in it.
If Scottish warriors aren’t your thing, how about a paranormal or romantic suspense?
Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward – If you liked Twilight, you’ll love this saga about a society of sexy vampire warriors defending their race and the strong women who fall for them. The first in the series is Dark Lover.
Hard to Let Go by Laura Kaye –This book is part of the Hard Ink series about ex-soldiers fighting organized crime from the back of a tattoo parlor. There’s plenty of action and plenty of heat to keep you turning the page long after your bedtime.
And if you’re craving something even hotter, here’s my erotic suggestions. In these books you’ll find BDSM, some group sex, and graphic, yet masterfully written scorching hot sex scenes.
Hard to Serve by Laura Kaye – Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink series I mentioned above sizzles. This novel about a sex club called Blasphemy is volcanic.
The Wicked Horse series by Sawyer Bennett – This series is about another sex club, this time in Wyoming and man does it get wicked! The first in the series is Wicked Fall.
There’s also a Wicked Horse Vegas series. I’ve read book one – Wicked Favor. Book two – Wicked Wish is in the stack I bought to treat myself for Valentine’s Day.
Driven trilogy by K. Bromberg – If you liked Fifty Shades of Grey, this series is a must read. While it doesn’t have the kink of Fifty Shades, this story about a race car driver and the woman who redeems him will have you rooting for a happily ever after. Spoiler alert – they get it at the finish line. The first book in the series is Driven.
