Here are a few chapters of our story…..

 
We are a husband and wife team that lives locally in Bel Air with their young daughter. We started this business formally in January after watching our passion for reading and books consume our home. We started this marriage formally in April after a five year relationship. Jeff grew up in the area and knew he wanted to stay somewhat close to home when he settled down. Liz was a little bit of a nomad with no real place she would have called her hometown.
 
When we were house hunting we looked around Harford and Baltimore counties and one day we made a very last minute trip to the house we now call home and signed papers practically after pulling into the driveway. We both appreciated living in a town that felt like it really had a sense of community. We loved the events like the Fourth of July, the Kite Festival, First Fridays, and Movies in the park! Bel Air has a beautiful Main Street with restaurants and shops with local artists, consignment stores and our favorite comic book store.
 
As we unpacked after moving in 2015 our house has gradually filled with books; K, our daughter, knows the third bedroom to simply be called “The Library” even though it’s contents spilled out quite early. Every few months a new bookcase takes its place on another wall. In the summer of 2017 we realized there was so much more to learn about our town and it’s people around the same time we recognized the county had only one other used bookstore.
 
By the new year of 2018 we had formulated a plan to earn the basic start-up costs by selling books online. We began to collect books and save money. We decided to create a booth we could use to build community interest in our project at the town festivals like the Belle Aire Market. It became apparent quite quickly that this was something the people wanted to see happen for us and that the business couldn’t grow with me still working full time so she left IKEA after almost 8 years to build Caprichos Books.
 
Our projected storefront opening has moved back and forth from a dream of October 2018, to a (what we thought at the time) was a more realistic goal of fall 2019 to a previously unimagined August 2018! It’s definitely been a whirlwind. With the help of our family, friends, and community we are exceeding our expectations and receiving a fantastic amount of support. The connections we have made are ensuring our business foundation is strong and our future is as clear as possible.
